Since the price was exactly the same the averages are the same ($1,328 for bales and $1,325 for bulk) which gives bales an average $3 more than bulk. So I sold a total of $3,984 in bales and $3,975 in bulk, giving a $9 higher profit for bales. Now I ran the same test again but this time with the fixed crop prices mod which locks the prices to the highest possible price and supposedly completely removes price fluctuations. The Average for bales was $903 while bulk was $891 bales did give a better profit. To set this up I placed the sale everything mod nearby got 4 tractors 1 with a bale spike the other 3 was pulling a mixer wagon (which was given 1 bale each giving me 9,000 liters of bulk straw per wagon) the way I sold was bulk first then bale then repeat selling 3 bales and 3 loads of bulk straw.īale 3 sold for $924 (this spiked a bit so the price did increase a bit for bales)Īfter the test was completed I sold a total of $2,708 in bales and $2,673 in bulk, giving a $35 higher profit with bales (pretty close to the first test I did.) Ok interesting I just did the test again first I did it without the fixed price mod again on easy economy and using 9,000 liter bales To me it seems like selling the bulk material would actually be more profitable because it eliminates the need of so much equipment (6 pieces of equipment with bale method vs 3 with bulk method) which would save a lot on maintenance and fuel costs. With that in mind wouldn't the maintenance and fuel costs of running everything to make the bales and collect them (bale loader, baler, 2 tractors (one for pulling the baller and bale loader and one for loading the bales onto a semi trailer) and a semi truck and trailer for transport) would that not completely negate that extra $30 per bale due to more maintenance and fuel usage vs just selling the bulk material itself limiting the equipment needed to just a tractor, forage wagon and tipper for transport.

I did a test on easy economy and a 9,000 liter straw bale sold for $1,001 while 9,000 liters of bulk straw only sold for $971 now that's only $30 more if I go through the effort of making the bales. So I've been bailing straw for extra cash (don't have animals that needs the straw) and I'm wondering if it's actually worthwhile to go through the effort of bailing the straw or should I just sale the bulk material itself?
